2010 A.D, the millenium of choice, in the age of reason....We live in a world where opinions have a high value. What exactly does that mean and is it a good thing or a bad thing?. whatever the answer is, it doesnt really matter in the larger scale of things. What is an opinion? this blog is an opinion, my thoughts expressed, based on a veiw of life through my perspective. MY perspective based on MY life experiences and dependant on MY physical mental and emotional make-up.
The thought i am tryin to express here first revealed itself to me when i read a short story by Kahlil Gibran called Knowledge and half knowledge,
Four frogs sat upon a log that lay floating on the edge of a river. Suddenly the log was caught by the current and swept slowly down the stream. The frogs were delighted and absorbed, for never before had they sailed.
At length the first frog spoke, and said, “This is indeed a most marvellous log. It moves as if alive. No such log was ever known before.”
Then the second frog spoke, and said, “Nay, my friend, the log is like other logs, and does not move. It is the river that is walking to the sea, and carries us and the log with it.”
And the third frog spoke, and said, “It is neither the log nor the river that moves. The moving is in our thinking. For without thought nothing moves.”
And the three frogs began to wrangle about what was really moving. The quarrel grew hotter and louder, but they could not agree.
Then they turned to the fourth frog, who up to this time had been listening attentively but holding his peace, and they asked his opinion.
And the fourth frog said, “Each of you is right, and none of you is wrong. The moving is in the log and the water and our thinking also.”
And the three frogs became very angry, for none of them was willing to admit that his was not the whole truth, and that the other two were not wholly wrong.
Then a strange thing happened. The three frogs got together and pushed the fourth frog off the log into the river.
Everybody has an opinion about something, some people form an opinion just have a say in the conversation while some withhold their opinion out of fear. The truth is that we are all fragments of life and each of our perspectives holds something that the other one does. Individually our opinions and perspectives are not wrong its just that they veiw only a smaller part of the picture or rather a portion of it. Only when all the peices of the puzzle are put together can the whole picture be seen. This of course sounds too optimistic as it would be impossible to listen to every single persons opinion about everything but i believe the beauty lies in the fact that we dont really have to. all our minds are like the waters in the ocean, free flowing, formless!.. what differs is the vessels that the water is placed in thats what gives it the ILLUSION of form but ultimately water is water and like our minds it is formless. Remove the vessel and let your mind flow freely like the river so that it may reach the mighty ocean and be one with all. no more opinions and perspectives. only the truth and knowledge await us there>.
